Every year our church aims to support a particular charity – usually alternating between a local good cause and an overseas concern. Our January church meeting made the choice for 2017 of The Christian Blind Mission (CBM).
This Charity is an international Christian disability and development organisation, improving the quality of life of people living with and at risk of disability in some of the world’s poorest communities. We particularly wished to support the charity in its work to give sight back to children and others suffering from cataracts causing blindness. Apparently, in many cases, a simple operation can restore sight and give it to children who were born blind because of cataracts.
The CBM website states that last year they protected 70 million people from blinding diseases, enabled 79,913 children with disabilities to go to school and restored sight to 460,627 people through cataract surgery.
Special efforts will be held over the course of the year in order to raise funds for this wonderful work.
